The Berea Arts Council is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit arts
organization. It was incorporated in 1986 to focus the
resources of Berea College and Berea's extensive arts population on
the need for arts in the community.
The Berea Arts
Council's Board of Directors is made up of 13-15 community members.
New members are nominated by the sitting Board and elected by the
full membership. The Board members represent expertise and
skills from Berea's substantial arts community, from Berea College,
from other non-profits, the public school system, local businesses
and the community newspaper.
The Berea Arts Council is staffed by an Executive Director.
The Executive Director is the BAC's public liaison with community
groups, private organizations, businesses, schools and governmental
organizations.
The Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director, provides
for the administrative and programming needs of the Berea Arts
Council.
BAC is a
volunteer driven organization. Part-time office staff is
provided by a Berea College labor student, but volunteers make up
the majority of the workforce. To further this purpose,
the BAC has organized a
cadre of over 75 dedicated volunteers. These individuals serve on
committees, staff the exhibit area of ArtSpace on weekends, and,
along with the Board, provide the labor to support all programs,
exhibits and fundraising events.
